In his bid to highlight the agrarian crisis in the country, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will undertake a 'padyatra' (march) in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region to meet farmers on Thursday.
Scheduled to start at 7.45 a.m. from Gunj village, approximately 50 km from Amravati district town, Gandhi will embark on a 15-km march to meet farmers and their families, party spokesperson Vijay Inder Singla told IANS.
Another party official said the purpose of the padyatra is to visit farmers in the region where many have committed suicide due to mounting debts.
Gandhi will be accompanied by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan and Congress Legislature Party leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil as also other leaders.
