Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday said that Indian Railways is working on an enterprise resource programme (ERP) solution for its procurement purposes.
ERP is a business management software used to streamline various functions like procurement and sales.
"Indian Railways is heading towards digital age and railways is working on enterprise resource programme - a software which shall benefit railways immensely," Prabhu said after inaugrating the conference on "Digitization of Railway Supply Chain - A Leap forward in Ease of Doing Business" here.
"In the procurements, transparency has to be maintained throughout the process and ensure participation of everyone," the minister said.
While, inaugurating the pan-India digitisation of railway supply chain, Prabhu stressed upon the need for framing tech-specifications of all railway items which will benefit vendors as well as the railways.
He also pointed out that integrated materials management system will help in optimum asset utilisation, efficiency in transaction and reduce cost of doing business. It will also eliminate barriers by supply chain digitisation.
"Indian Railways is trendsetter among ministries to start E-procurement in the year 2005-06. Digitisation of Railway supply chain is a leap forward in ease of doing business and transparency," he added.
