Superstar Rajinikanth on Wednesday thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for deciding to set up a memorial for late legendary Tamil actor Sivaji Ganeshan.
"I sincerely thank the Tamil Nadu government's decision to honour actor Sivaji with a memorial," Rajinikanth said in a statement.
On Wednesday, Jayalalithaa announced that a memorial will be built here honouring Sivaji Ganeshan.
Making a suo muto statement in the assembly, she said in September 2002, she had allotted land measuring 65 cents for the purpose of constructing a memorial for Sivaji and handed over the responsibility to South Indian Film Artists Association of Commerce.
Since the association had failed to utilize the land for the purpose, her government has decided to take the matter into its hands.
Sivaji, who has starred in over 250 Tamil films, is a recipient of Dadasaheb Phalkhe award.
