The BJP on Monday named its Jabalpur MP Rakesh Singh as the new chief whip in the Lok Sabha.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters that Singh's appointment has been necessitated as Arjun Ram Meghawal, who held the post, has been inducted as a minister.
"Singh is a three time MP from Jabalpur and a seasoned leader from Madhya Pradesh. His experience will help the party in smooth conduct of business in the house," he said.
Meghawal has been made Minister of State for Finance in the recent reshuffle carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 5.
