A record number of 14,050 runners from over 125 countries and regions raced in the 10th Geneva International Marathon over the weekend, according to the event organiser.
The 10th Geneva marathon featured eight different races, including the full and semi-marathon, 10 km race and wheelchair race, Xinhua reported.
For the Sunday's marathon race, the 42.19 km course combines the best features of Geneva and the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Kenyan Simon Mukun ran an outstanding race with a new event record of two hours and 11 minutes, with the cheers by thousands of spectators lining the Mont-Blanc bridge in the city.
"The course was technical and it was windy so I am happy I won and broke," the winner said.
Milka Jerotich, who also from Kenya, broke the women's record, lowering 11 minutes from the previous record.
Despite the windy weather, hundreds of thousand spectators lined the race courses on the shores of lake Geneva and along the marathon route to support the runners over the weekend.
Earlier in the day, more than 5,300 runners took part in the semi-marathon.
Swedish male runner Adil Bouafif led from start to finish, completing the race in a time of 01:05:07.
Aline Camboulives from France claimed her three straight titles in the women's semi-marathon.
