Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd on Tuesday announced that its Only Vimal brand has received US patent for its DEO2 process technology, which enables fabric to resist the settlement of micro-organisms, thus keeping away perspiration odour.

The patent has been granted by the US Patent & Trademark Office, RIL said in a statement, adding that the Indian government had granted a patent to DEO2 technology in July 2015.

The RIL-developed DEO2 "is a unique innovative fabric processing technology that provides anti-microbial finish on fabric that arrest the growth of fungi and bacteria, keeping the fabric clean and fresh", it said.

"DEO2 process innovations allows it to process 100 per cent wool, 100 per cent rayon, 100 per cent polyester, polyester/viscose, polyester/wool and other combination fabrics with anti-microbial coating," it added.

The company said the DEO2 coating also provides protection from "ill effects of ultra violet rays" emanating from the sun.

Pradeep Bhandari, CEO (textiles business), RIL said: "The US patent award is a testimony to our thrust on the technological innovation."

RIL said it is focusing on the domestic market as the typically warm and humid tropical environs in India cause perspiration and provide ideal condition for growth of bacterial and fungi on cloth.
