Rs.50 lakh-worth gold seized at Goa airport

Customs and central excise officials here have seized gold worth Rs.50 lakh from an Indian national who landed at Goa airport from Sharjah, said an official Monday.

While customs officials were tight-lipped about the identity of the passenger, an official here confirmed the arrest that took place at 5 a.m. Sunday.

"The passenger arrived by Air Arabia flight G9-499. We had a tip-off that he was carrying gold. We have seized 1.550 kg of gold bars worth Rs.50 lakh from his person," the official said.
