Sabarimala to get national pilgrimage status

The Sabarimala temple will shortly get the status of a national pilgrimage centre, central Culture and Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma said here on Monday.

"Sabarimala is an important pilgrimage centre in the country. Hence, it's the responsibility of the central government ensure its development as a national pilgrimage centre," he said while inaugurating a boat race.

The Sabarimala temple is situated on the Western Ghat ranges, four kilometres uphill from Pamba river in Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala.
