Brazilian top-flight football club Santos confirmed that they are in talks to sign former Argentina international striker Javier Saviola.
"He's just been involved in a great season for Malaga and is a player we have been looking at but I don't know how negotiations are progressing," said Santos' interim coach Claudinei Oliveira Friday, reports Xinhua.
Representatives from the club have already held talks with the 31-year-old's agent Diego Queiroga but it is understood Santos have refused the former Barcelona and Real Madrid forward's reported $250,000 monthly wage demands.
Meanwhile, the club is close to signing striker Thiago Ribeiro from Italian Serie A outfit Cagliari, Oliveira revealed.
"He has made it clear that he wants to join the club and help us. With the experience and quality he has, it's going to be a great signing. We only need to finalise minor details," he said.
