Srinagar, April 28 (IANS) A sarpanch in north Kashmir's Baramulla district was injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at him Sunday evening, police said. He suffered a superficial injury and was discharged after first aid.
"Gunmen shot and injured Gulam Ahmad Bhat, sarpanch of Bomai village on the outskirts of Sopore town, this evening," Sopore's Superintendent of Police Syed Imtiyaz Hussain told IANS.
"He sustained a bullet injury in his arm and was shifted to the hospital for treatment where doctors said he had suffered a superficial gunshot injury and was discharged after first aid."
The incident comes soon after separatist guerrillas ambushed and killed four local policemen in Hygam village of Baramulla Friday.
