The federation decided to replace the Dutchman with Spaniard Sergio after Saudi Arabia's poor results in the Gulf Cup, Federation Spokesperson Adnan Al Muaibed told the Saudi News Agency, reports Xinhua.

Saudi Arabia failed to reach the semifinal of the Gulf Cup, which was held in Bahrain.

The former Barca manager was hired in May 2011. He has also been blamed for the failure of the team to advance in 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
