Sensex gains 322 points in afternoon trade

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex), was on Thursday trading 321.59 points or 1.33 percent up during the afternoon session.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 90.70 points or 1.23 percent up at 7,459.55 points.

The Sensex of the S&P BSE, which opened at 24,386.67 points, was trading at 24,564.57 points (at 01.16 p.m.) in the afternoon session -- up 321.59 points or 1.33 percent from the previous day's close at 24,242.98 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 24,581.38 points and a low of 24,383.28 points in the trade so far.

Sector-wise, the S&P BSE metal index gained by 3.48 percent, capital goods index moved up by 3 percent, industrials index got augmented by 2.47 percent and basic materials index went up by 2.18 percent.
