Sensex sheds 82 points; oil and gas stocks down

A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading 82.51 points or 0.31 percent down during the afternoon session on Thursday.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also was trading in negative territory -- 34.15 points or 0.42 percent down at 8,062.85 points.

The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,721.34 points, was trading at 26,634.86 points (at 1.40 p.m.) -- down 82.51 points or 0.31 percent from the previous day's close at 26,717.37 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 26,850.37 points and a low of 26,518.62 points in the intra-day trade.

Good buying was observed in the IT sector, while selling pressure was seen in oil and gas, banking and realty sectors.
