Seven persons were arrested on Sunday for assaulting a Kolkata Police traffic sergeant here, police said.
The incident took place at the Panditiya Road-Hazra Road crossing in south Kolkata's Ballygunj area late on Saturday when the traffic sergeant stopped a bike with two riders as both of them were travelling without helmets.
Shortly, a quarrel broke out between the two sides. The riders refused to pay the penalty and called up their friends who also arrived on bikes and thrashed the sergeant, police said.
"Traffic sergeant Golak Sarkar was allegedly manhandled and beaten up by a few miscreants on bikes. Seven people have been arrested as per the complaint lodged by the sergeant," a police officer said.
Police said it was easier for them to locate and arrest the offenders as the assault was recorded in Sarkar's body camera.
