Bihar continued to shiver Tuesday due to icy winds, while dense fog led to the delay or cancellation of many trains and flights, officials said.
Normal life was affected, with most people forced to stay indoors across the state.
The poor were seen huddled around fires to keep themselves warm in the cloudy, foggy weather.
Met department director R.K. Giri said Gaya was the coldest place in the state at a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius, while Patna saw a minimum temperature of 6.5 degrees Celsius.
He said there will not be any respite from the severe cold till Wednesday, and the foggy weather will aggravate in the coming days.
In view of the biting cold, the authorities said government-run primary and middle schools will remain closed.
The government also asked private schools to change their timings.
According to Patna airport officials, many flights were delayed Tuesday due to fog and poor visibility. Dense fog also led to many trains running late.
