Severe weather forecast April 7-11: IMD

The IMD has warned of severe weather conditions for five days starting Saturday. Heavy rains in Meghalaya and thunderstorms with squall and hail are forecast in Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

"On April 7, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Meghalaya, while thunderstorms accompanied with squall and hail were likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) statement said.

While Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura were likely to experience thunderstorm with squalls.

Thunderstorms with gusty winds and lightning were predicted over central Maharashtra and Marathwada, besides east Uttar Pradesh, interior Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Saturday, the IMD said.

The IMD has also forecast heavy rain at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Sunday.

The weather department said that on Sunday, thunderstorms were likely to occur at various place while there is possibility of squall and hail at isolated places over Uttrakhand, Odisha Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, north Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.

Gusty winds with lightning might take place at isolated places over central Maharashtra, Marathwada and south Konkan, Goa, interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala, interior and coastal Karnataka, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and east Madhya Pradesh.

On April 9, thunderstorm accompanied with squall and hail can take place at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Kerala, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

Similar type of weather will continue on April 10 at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand Punjab, north Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.

While on April 11, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds was likely to occur at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
