The Union Shipping Ministry on Thursday sought sought feedback on its ambitious Sagarmala Project that aims to modernise India's port.

According to the Ministry, under the Sagarmala Programme five reports have been prepared to provide implementation of roadmap for holistic port-led development in the country and to engage with various stakeholders.

"The reports have been posted on the Ministry of Shipping website. The Ministry is reaching out to relevant stakeholders to apprise them of the findings/recommendations in these reports and to obtain relevant feedback on the same," said the statement.

"The reports include the cargo traffic projections in the ports and related logistics bottlenecks, plans for port capacity enhancement, perspective plans for the Coastal Economic Zones proposed under Sagarmala and the policy level recommendations to make port-led development successful in India," added the statement.

The Sagarmala Programme aims to change the way logistics evacuation happens in India, make Indian manufacturers globally competitive, boost overall economic development through ports and empower coastal communities.

The Sagarmala Programme was launched with the approval of the Union Cabinet on March 25th 2015, with a view to achieve the broad objective of promoting port-led economic development in India.

In order to harness India's 7,500 km long coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways, and strategic location on key international maritime trade routes, the Government has embarked on the ambitious Sagarmala Programme which was approved by the Cabinet on March 25, 2015.

The feedback can be sent on or before August 31.
