Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday spoke to his Rajasthan counterpart Vasundhara Raje to demand strict action against those who assaulted four Sikhs in the desert state last month.

He also sought action against a police constable who allegedly instigated the crowd.

Though the Rajasthan State Minorities Commission has taken cognisance of the April 24 video clipping -- that appeared on the social media -- and sought an action-taken report from Ajmer police, a strong signal needs to be sent by the state to the perpetrators of the violence, Amarinder Singh said.

The Chief Minister said the Rajasthan government needed to order an inquiry to fix culpability and ensure the culprits are duly punished.

He also expressed concern that the incident was sought to be given a communal twist, as per media reports.

Amarinder Singh said it was shocking that the crime did not come to police notice till the video clipping surfaced on the social media, which showed the mob dragging the four Sikhs out of a vehicle and thrashing them mercilessly.

Amarinder Singh said the constable, who reached the spot, not only failed to save the victims but was found instigating the crowd to "teach them a lesson".
