The Navratri festival is celebrated with great fervour in the country, where people dance and dress up to their best. In order to turn heads during the festivities, wear bright colours and avoid using cakey make-up for dandiya nights, says an expert.

Bhavya Chawla, chief stylist, Voonik, an online stylist-handpicked apparel store, has shared some tips to look the best during the occasion.

* Always think bright colours: Indian festivities always call for a riot of bright colors. For us, colours express joy and what better way to bring Navratri! So bring out all the scarlets and the fuchsias to maek a statement.

* Limit the layers of make-up: With dandiya comes night long therapies of dancing, and, of course, the inevitable nightmare of profuse sweating! So make sure you keep the make-up to a bare minimum because the sweat makes excessive make-up pile on in forms of ugly cakes. Waterproof make-up however can be your saviour in this department.

* Say no to high-heels: In the risk of stating the obvious, let us take a brief moment and warn you against those sky-high heels for dandia nights! Dancing the night away would require comfortable flats. Try juttis or the comfy kolapuris!

* Pin up those dupattas: Another very important lesson would be to pin up your lehenga or saree safely before stepping out for the day. Remember, you will be running around and dancing to all those DJ beats, so you wouldn't want a wardrobe malfunction now, would you?

* Go heavy on the accessories: Keeping all things practical is definitely not the Indian way of celebrating festivals! So bring out those larger-than-life jhumkis and maang tikkas! However, don't go overboard with the accessories, take up only as much as you can handle.

* Tie up those tresses: If you're thinking of leaving those long, lustrous waves open for dandiya, then we say abort that mission! Hair is unmanageable while dancing and more so when infused with sweat! Go for a neat bun or a loose braid and let your outfit do most of the talking.
