SIT to probe suicide by Gurgaon youth

The Gurgaon police commissioner Wednesday ordered the constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the suicide of a youth Feb 7 due to alleged police harassment.

The SIT headed by assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Manesar will investigate the suicide of 21-year-old Manish Yadav, who hanged himself at his residence.

The chief of Badshahpur police station and two other policemen will be the other members of the SIT.

The relatives of the deceased along with nearly two hundred people Wednesday met Gurgaon police commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk.

The decision to form the SIT was taken during the meeting with Virk.

People had blocked traffic, protesting against the incident and demanding the immediate arrest of the accused policemen, on the busy Sohna road here Saturday. They were later booked under several sections for causing trouble.

Four policemen including assistant sub-inspector Narender Kumar have been booked for abetment to suicide.

Manish, a resident of Fazilpur village, was a law student in a private university here. His father is a hotelier.

He was found hanging from a ceiling fan.

Five people, including the deceased, had been booked for attacking two policemen near Fazilpur Chowk where they were checking vehicles Jan 7. They were booked under charges of attempt to murder.

The investigation officer in the case was demanding Rs.5 lakh to exclude his (deceased) name from the FIR, the people told the police chief.
