Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharman arrived here on Wednesday on a two-day visit during which she will celebrate Diwali with soldiers at the Andaman and Nicobar Command.
The Minister was received at INS Utkrosh -- an Indian naval air station under the Andaman and Nicobar Command -- by Lt Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi (retd) and the command's Commander-in-Chief Vice Admiral Bimal Verma.
Port Blair-based Andaman and Nicobar Command is the only tri-service theatre command of the Indian armed forces.
She was accorded a Joint Services Guard of Honour.
During her visit to the command headquarters, she was given a comprehensive brief on the security environment and thrust areas of the command.
It is Sitharaman's maiden visit to the command after taking over as the Defence Minister.
