Six dengue deaths in Delhi, cases rise

The toll in the national capital on account of the dengue virus has risen to six. The number of cases of the disease reported so far is 4,074, a municipal health officer said Monday.

The latest person to succumb to the virus in Delhi was 41-year-old Neeraj Singh from Paschim Vihar, in west Delhi.

Within a week, more than 500 new dengue cases were reported from the city. Last Monday, the number of cases reported were 3,519.

The others in Delhi who died of the disease this season are Phool Singh, 47, of west Delhi's Ashok Nagar; Priyanka Shankar, 21, of north Delhi's Pratap Nagar; Priya Jha, 6, of south Delhi's Okhla; 35-year-old Gautam Priyanka, a resident of Kishangargh in west Delhi, and 17-year-old Yashica Narang, of Rajouri Garden in west Delhi.

Of the total number of cases, 4,034 are from the national capital. The remaining are from other adjoining states.

In the north corporation alone, the number of cases has reached 1,770 and the south and east corporations have also seen a constant rise, and now stand at 1,210 and 939, respectively.
