A retired army doctor committed suicide by stabbing himself, while five of his family members were found dead in a flat here on Sunday, police said.
According to initial investigations, the retired doctor -- Dr Sukanto Sarkar -- was apparently under stress due to threatening calls, as his daughter-in-law wanted separation from his son and demanded that property matters be settled at the earliest, a police official said.
Those found dead were wife Anjana Sarkar, son Somit Sarkar, daughter-in-law Momita Sarkar, and grand-daughters Samita Sarkar and Sumita Sarkar.
Police suspect that the five members were first poisoned by Dr Sarkar who later stabbed himself.
Dr Sarkar, who lived in Noida, had come to Ranchi on October 6 to settle the issues between his son and daughter-in-law.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
