Srinagar has season's coldest night

With the minimum temperature dropped to minus 2.6 degrees Friday, the summer capital Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season so far, and the Leh town in Ladakh region shivered at minus 11 degrees.

An official of the Meteorological Department here told IANS, the minimum temperature dropped to 2.6 degrees Celsius below zero Thursday night which is the coldest recorded temperature so far this season.

"The minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar Friday (minus 2.6 degrees) is three degrees below normal," the official said.

"The minimum temperature dropped to minus 5.0 degrees Friday in Pahalgam (four degrees below normal), minus 3.0 in Gulmarg (two degrees below normal) and 8.0 degrees in Jammu city (five degrees below normal)," he added.

"The minimum temperature was minus 11.0 degrees in Leh and minus 6.6 degrees in Kargil towns of Ladakh region Friday," he said.

The official said as the weather over Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain dry during the next 48 hours, the night temperatures would drop further in the coming days.
