Srinagar, April 28 (IANS) A police patrol party in Srinagar had a narrow escape Sunday after a grenade was hurled at it from a speeding car but did not explode, police said.

A senior police officer said the failed attack occurred when the patrol signalled a speeding Maruti car to stop at the Nowgam road crossing on the Baramulla-Muzaffarabad road, 12 km from city centre Lal Chowk, in the evening.

"Instead of stopping the car, the driver accelerated and somebody from inside hurled a grenade at the police party. Luckily, the grenade did not explode," said the officer.
