Lauding the services of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at the Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Nepal borders, the central government Saturday said the force was playing an "important role in curbing anti-national activities and international crimes".
Speaking at the 51st Raising Day function of the SSB here, Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said the force, besides maintaining tight vigil at the Indo-Bhutan and Indo-Nepal borders, was also curbing anti-national activities and international crimes, narcotics, wildlife trade, arms peddling and smuggling of antique idols.
The minister also lauded SSB's role in the successful implementation of popular civic action programmes like 'Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana' and 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'.
He appreciated its rescue and relief operations during disasters in the country and advised it to "adopt technology in disbursing their duties".
Calling upon the SSB to face challenges with commitment and confidence, the minister also lauded its role in Jammu and Kashmir and in Left wing extremism affected states.
Chaudhary also appreciated the "friendly nature of their service and hoped that it would help in maintaining good relations with friendly neighbouring countries."
The Raising Day parade was followed by a colourful display by SSB troops, dog squad and motorcycle riders.
The programme was attended by chief of Royal Bhutan Police, Kipchu Namgyel and Inspector General Armed Police Force Nepal, Kosh Raj Onta.
Director General, SSB, B.D. Sharma, secretary, Border Management, MHA, Sneh Lata Kumar and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
