West Bengal's opposition Left Front on Wednesday described the video of Trinamool Congress leaders purportedly caught accepting bribes in a sting operation as "shameful" and demanded the footage be examined and "proper action" taken if the said politicians were in the wrong.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose told the media that the incident was without any parallel in the state's parliamentary history.

"We demand the video be viewed by the authorities and verified. If the video is genuine, then that calls for action against the leaders caught on camera accepting bribes. In the same way, if the video is fake, then action should be taken against those behind the fiasco," Bose said after a meeting of Left Front partners.

"The incident is shameful," he said.

The sting operation carried out by Narada News and uploaded on its website allegedly showed as many as 11 Trinamool leaders, including former union ministers, state ministers and MPs, accepting bribes in return for favours to a fictitious company.

The Trinamool has rubbished the allegations made in the sting operation and threatened legal action against the news portal claiming the videos were "doctored".

Seizing on the raging issue in the poll-bound state, the opposition parties have demanded that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee step down immediately. The CPI-M has also demanded imposition of President's Rule.
