Students protest against eve teasing at UP university

Students at the Mahatama Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University in Bareilly staged a protest on Wednesday following an incident of eve teasing on the campus.

The protesting students said a girl was harassed by some male students two days back, but despite complaints, not much had happened to track and book the guilty students.

The sit-in protest was organised by activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student outfit affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Members of the Samajwadi Party-affiliated Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha also staged a similar protest.

Students raised slogans against Vice Chancellor Anil Shukla and sought an action plan for improved security on the campus and at the hostels for girls.

The development comes days after a similar eve teasing incident at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay University in Gorakhpur and earlier at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), which saw a violent agitation.
