Subhasini Ali CPI-M candidate from Barrackpore

Subhasini Ali, daughter of revolutionary Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army associates Prem Sahgal and Laxmi Sahgal, would be the CPI-M candidate from Barrackpore in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha polls, the Left Front announced Wednesday.

Releasing the list of Left Front candidates for the state's 42 Lok Sabha constituencies, the combine's chairman Biman Bose said it included five doctors,and 26 new faces.

Former state finance minister and eminent economist Asim Dasgupta would contest the elections from Dum Dum in North 24 Parganas district on Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) ticket. CPI-M central committee member Mohammad Salim would be in fray from Raiganj in North Dinajpur district.

Ali had in 1989 won the Lok sabha polls from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on CPI-M ticket.

"Five of the candidates are medical practioners, 26 are new candidates, there are six women, and 12 representing miniority communities. Thirteen of the candidates are from scheduled caste/scheduled tribe," said Bose.
