Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced an out of form Shikhar Dhawan with Darren Sammy as skipper for the rest of the season ahead of their crucial encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here Sunday.
The official line from team mentor V.V.S.Laxman was: "We are hoping for a lot from Shikhar the batsman."
In fact Sammy, who recently announced his retirement from Test cricket after being sacked as the West Indies captain, returned to the Sunrisers line-up against Kolkata Knight Riders after sitting out in the last four matches.
Sammy replaced Moises Henriques as Sunrisers' only change in the match. At the toss, he didn't pinpoint any reason for the change in captaincy. But Dhawan has had a poor season so far, scoring 215 runs at 21.50, with no half-centuries.
