Sprint icon Usain Bolt will open his season at the Cayman Invitation next month as he sets his sight on history at the Rio Olympics this summer.

The 29-year-old has been in training and will now test his form on May 14 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Grand Cayman when he contests in the 100 metres event, reports CMC.

"I am pleased to announce that I will be competing in the 100m at the Cayman International T&F meeting on May 14," the Jamaican announced on Wednesday.

"It will be my first international competition in 2016 and my second time to run in Cayman. I always enjoy competing in the Caribbean and look forward to meeting my fans in Cayman."

Bolt is the reigning 100m and 200 metres champion after dominating in 2012 London Olympics. He also swept the sprints at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and will now attempt to become the first athlete in history to win both events at three straight Olympics.

The meet will also feature Anguilla's Zharnel Hughes, who now runs for Great Britain, competing in the 200 metres along with Antiguan Miguel Francis and Jamaican Jason Young.

Trinidad and Tobago's Machel Cedenio, the world junior champion, will battle in the 400 metres with Jamaica's Jermaine Gonzalez.

World 400m champion and Olympic 200m winner, American Allyson Felix is also set to compete along with compatriot, former 100m champion Carmelita Jeter in women's events.
