Pakistan Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal Thursday said the political crisis in the country would only be resolved through talks with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
He said the talks were suspended on PTI's unreasonable demand for the prime minister's resignation and now since the party has withdrawn its demand, progress in negotiations could be expected, Radio Pakistan reported.
Ahsan Iqbal, who would accompany Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in the dialogue with the PTI, which is led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, said the government desires to reach a breakthrough in the political impasse as early as possible.
He urged the PTI leadership to demonstrate seriousness to resolve the issue so that the country could move forward on the path of progress and prosperity.
Ahsan Iqbal also expressed regret over the violent clashes which took place in Faisalabad Monday, resulting in the death of two activists.
PTI Wednesday agreed to resume talks with the government.
However, party spokesperson Shireen Mazar said PTI would not accept 'conditional talks'.
