The central government on Saturday assured Tamil Nadu of 100 MW additional power from the second 1,000 MW nuclear power plant at Kudankulam, said a state government release.

According to the release, Union minister of state for power, coal, new and renewable energy Piyush Goyal called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam at the state secretariat.

At the meeting, responding to the state government's request for 15 percent of the unallocated power from the Kudankulam plant, Goyal assured supply of 100 MW.

Goyal also promised to look into the request for supply of unallocated power to Tamil Nadu from various central-state joint venture power projects in the state.

Tamil Nadu requested allocation of Rs.2385 crore under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) for system strengthening and infrastructure development.

The state government also sought Goyal's intervention for getting clearance from the ministry of environment and forests for de-reservation of land for commissioning of the TANGEDCO-NLC joint venture at Tuticorin.

Tamil Nadu requested Goyal to expedite the release of the incentive grant of around Rs.1051 crore to Tamil Nadu as per the recommendation of the 13th Finance Commission for achieving the targets prescribed under renewable energy.
