Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday congratulated Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj for becoming the highest run-scorer in the One-Day International (ODI) format.
Mithali, who lives in Hyderabad, has so far scored 6,000 runs in the 50-over cricket. She achieved the feat during India's World Cup game against Australia on Wednesday in Bristol, England.
KCR, as the Chief Minister is known, said it was a proud moment for the country as Mithali created a record as the highest run getter and Bengal pace ace Jhulan Goswami became the highest wicket taker.
He noted that both these young women re-created the playing days of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.
KCR said Hyderabad girls excelled in cricket, tennis and badminton and won awards, inspiring more girls.
