Police in Telangana have solved the mystery behind rape and murder of a minor girl with the arrest of her father, who committed the beastly act in an inebriated condition.
Meghawat Kamal (38) tried to mislead police by lying that some unidentified people attacked him, kidnapped his 15-year-old daughter, gang raped and murdered her. He even inflicted an injury on his forehead to convince police.
The incident occured on May 21 night near Ijrachittampalli near Vikarabad in Ranga Reddy district, about 75 km from here.
Police, who had picked up few autorickshaw drivers on suspicion, finally cracked the case with the arrest of Kamal, a tribal.
Ranga Reddy district Superintendent of Police M. Srinivas told reporters at Vikarabad on Sunday that the contradictory statements and the body language of Kamal raised doubts and during the questioning he confessed.
Police arrested him after scanning the CCTV images at Vikarabad railway station and based on other evidence.
Simran, a student of Class 8, came to her relatives in HYderabad for summer holidays. She was picked by her father. They boarded a train to Vikarabad and after alighting at the railway station, he took her on his motorbike.
Police said en route to the village, the man stopped at a liquor shop and consumed liquor. After a few minutes, he stopped the two-wheeler at an isolated place and raped her.
Kamal told police that Simran pleaded with him not to kill her but fearing that she might tell his wife and other family members, he strangulated her.
After committing the crime, Kamal went to the village and told people that some unidentified people attacked them, kidnapped his daughter, gang-raped and murdered her. He later lodged a complaint with police.
On Friday, police found the girl's body and began investigations. They picked up a few autorickshaw drivers on the suspicion but made no progress. They finally arrested Kamal, who will be presented in court on Monday.
