Rio de Janeiro, July 14 (IANS/EFE) Argentina midfielder Javier Mascherano said that the sadness caused by losing the World Cup final will last forever.

"This sadness will be forever. It was our chance to win the title," Mascherano said after his team lost the World Cup final 0-1 to Germany in extra time, reports Efe.

"We feel sorry for the fans here and in Argentina. But this is football, we must keep our heads high and endure the pain. I am proud of our team," added Mascherano.

Germany won their fourth World Cup with a goal by Mario Goetze in extra time.
