Three youngsters who had gone for Ganesh idol immersion drowned in the Yamuna river in Uttar Pradesh's Agra Monday, police said.
They were identified as Sanjay (22), Annu (16) and Rinku Shivpuri (17).
The three were part of a group from the New Agra locality that had gone to immerse the idol after the 10-day Ganeshotsav festivities in their locality.
The youths slipped and drowned as the immersion was taking place deep in the river at the Balkeshwar Ghat.
Locals present there jumped into the river to save the youths and managed to rescue one of them. However, he too died after being brought to the ghat.
Police said divers have been pressed into service to locate the remaining two bodies.
