Three separatist guerrillas were killed on Monday in a brief gunfight with security forces in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, an official said.
"On a specific tip-off, troops of counter-insurgency 3-Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operations Group (SoG) of state police cordoned off a house in Tantraypora Siligam village in Anantnag district," a defence spokesman said here.
"When challenged, the guerrillas hiding in the house opened fire at security forces. In the ensuing encounter, all three hiding militants were killed. The operation is over," he said.
Siligam village lies nearly 70 km south of Srinagar.
"The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained," the spokesman said.
