The Delhi Police has arrested three ex-home guard personnel for operating a gang which used honey traps to extort money from targeted men.
Police on Friday claimed that Jagtinder Singh aka Jimmi, a resident of Sultanpuri in north Delhi, was at the centre of the racket. His two associates, Sunder Lal and Jitender aka Prince were also apprehended from different places in Sultanpuri on Thursday. A sum of Rs 50,000 has been recovered as part of the extorted money.
All three have been booked for extortion and criminal conspiracy.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Vijay Singh said: "We first received a complaint in March this year from one man, working as a pilot with a private airline, who had been lured and held by a woman and her associates in Budh Vihar area."
"The complainant said he was threatened by men who claimed to be police officers and threatened to report him for rape," the officer said that Rs 9.70 lakh was extorted from this man by the group on different ocassions.
An investigation led to the arrest of three persons.
According to police, the women in the gang would lure the targeted men. After the woman would get the men into their trap, the others would barge in, posing as police officers. Police said the gang would threaten the targets with arrest for rape and then demand money to let them go.
Police further said that efforts are being made to arrest the absconding male and female accomplices of the gang, to recover the remaining extortion money and also to trace the other victims. All the arrested accused have been sent to judicial custody.
