Three persons were killed and a dozen injured in a shootout between two groups over a land dispute in Deoria in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, following which angry locals blocked a highway, police said.
The deceased were Satya Prakash, 19, Ram Pradesh, 25, and Inderjeet, 22.
The injured were admitted to a district hospital, where the condition of Baijnath, 40, and Vijay, 50, is said to be critical.
Violence broke out at Sarora village due to a dispute over the construction of a petrol pump on a piece of land both sides claimed belonged to them.
Tension prevailed in the area, following which heavy police deployment was made.
