A court here on Sunday sent former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar, accused in a fake degree case, to one-day judicial custody.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ankit Singla remanded Tomar to judicial custody for a day after he was presented before the court as his two-day police remand expired on Sunday.
A magisterial court while remanding him in two days' police custody on Friday had directed Delhi Police not to seek his further custody.
Tomar was in police custody for 10 days after being arrested on June 9. The police have slapped a case of cheating, forgery and conspiracy against him.
Meanwhile, the police moved an application seeking Tomar's specimen signature to verify it with other records required in investigation.
However, magistrate Singla recused himself from issuing any direction, citing some personal issues and asked both parties to appear before the chief metropolitan magistrate on Monday for further hearing.
Police have alleged that Tomar enrolled himself as an advocate on the basis of a fake law degree. He is also accused of possessing forged graduation degree purportedly obtained from four different colleges.
A complaint was registered against the ex-law minister on behalf of Puneet Mittal, the Delhi Bar Council secretary, regarding Tomar's fake degree.
Police had taken him to Bundelkhand University, Awadh University in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, and Tilka Manjhi University in Bhagalpur, Bihar for verification of his degrees.
