Trinamool fields ex-footballer Banerjee for Howrah by-poll

The Trinamool Congress Friday named former international footballer Prasun Banerjee as the party candidate for the coming Lok Sabha by-election from the Howrah constituency.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Trinamool MP Ambica Banerjee April 25.

"Ambica Banerjee was a great lover of sports. So we have decided to nominate a footballer to replace him," said West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Banerjee.
