A CBI court here Saturday convicted 23 people and sentenced them to three to five years imprisonment in a multi-crore rupee fodder scam case.
The CBI court of B.K. Gautam pronounced the judgment in a fodder scam case related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs. 7.06 crore from Doranda treasury of Ranchi between 1981 and 1990.
The court convicted 23 of the accused and acquitted ten in the case. The court awarded three to five years imprisonment and slapped fines of up to Rs. 10 lakh on the convicts.
The fodder scam surfaced in 1996 in the undivided Bihar. When Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar, 54 cases were transferred here.
Different CBI courts have so far delivered judgments in 47 cases. In one case, two former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Yadav and Jagannath Mishra were convicted and given jail terms. Both Mishra and Lalu are accused in five cases.
