Two engineers from a private construction company were shot dead on Saturday by two motorcycle-borne unidentified criminals in Bihar's Darbhanga district, police said.
"The two engineers were killed near Shivram village under Baheri police station," a district police official said, adding both were engaged in road repair work.
Taking serious note of the incident, Bihar Police Chief P K Thakur held a meeting with top police officials.
Six suspected people were detained in this connection, police said.
Police could not immediately ascertain any cause behind the attack.
"Probe is on. We are looking from all angles including demand of rangdari (unofficial tax) by criminals from the road construction company," a police official said.
