Two persons have been arrested on the charge of stealing laptops in AC coaches of Rajdhani Express trains from New Delhi Railway station, police said on Tuesday.

Police said the accused, Ajay Kumar Singh, 42, and his associate Juber, 40, were arrested on Monday evening following a tip-off when Singh came near Paharganj with a stolen laptop. Later, police arrested Juber from his residence in Khajuri slum area.

"Vishal Pratap Singh, a complainant, had registered a theft complaint on Saturday. He travelled by Patna Rajdhani Express in the 2nd AC coach from New Delhi. He had kept his laptop bag on his seat and later found it missing," Deputy Commissioner of Police Parwaiz Ahmed said.

"While investigating the case, police teams found the same theft cases were reported in other Rajdhani Express trains particularly going towards Patna, Bilaspur and the Sampoorna Kranti Express train from Delhi. The teams later identified Singh after examining the CCTV footage of some railway stations," Ahmed said.

"Singh said during questioning that he frequently stole the laptops from Rajdhani Express trains when the passengers got busy with their mobile phones. He used to remove the laptop bags from their upper seats and moved out of the coach," Ahmed added.

He later called Juber and handed him the stolen laptops to resell them. They stole more than a dozen laptops in the last two months, the officer said.

Singh used to receive Rs 7,000 and Juber got Rs 2,000 for every stolen laptop, police said.

Singh and Juber came in contact with each other at New Delhi Railway Station.
