Two Indian nationals, Maulana Ramzan and Subhash Jangir, who allegedly worked for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), were on Thursday sent to 12-day police remand by the Patiala House Court here.

They were produced by police before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satish Arora, who remanded them for custodial interrogation till November 8.

Police sought custodial interrogation of both the accused to "unearth the larger conspiracy", as more persons are likely to be apprehended in the case. The recovery of certain documents and others things is also to be made with the help of the two accused, said the police.

They were arrested on Wednesday at around 10:40 a.m. by the Inter-state Cell of the Crime Branch during a raid near the Delhi zoo.

The Crime Branch officials believe that they had come to hand over some secret information to Mehmood Akhtar, an embassy official, about the deployment of security forces at Indian borders.

They were working as spies for Akhtar, the 'kingpin' of the racket working for the ISI, the officials said. Both Ramzan and Jangir hail from Rajasthan.

During the hearing, police told the court that had been providing critical data to Akhtar.

"The accused were involved in espionage activities for over a year-and-a-half. We (police) had been watching their activities for the past six months. On a specific input, they were held on Wednesday. Akhtar is the kingpin of the spy ring," police added.
