At least two people were killed and 20 others, including a policeman, were injured as suspected militants triggered a bomb explosion on Monday evening in Dudhnoi in western Assam's Goalpara district, police said.
"The blast took place around 6.20 p.m. and preliminary investigation indicated it to be an improvised explosive device (IED). The IED was kept in a garbage bin in the area. The explosion instantly injured 22 people and two of them died on the way to hospital," Superintendent of Police Nitul Gogoi said.
He added that a policeman was injured in the blast along with civilians.
The blast site is close to the Dudhnoi police station, police said.
Police suspect militants of the anti-talk faction of ULFA were responsible for the blast.
