Two bodies, mutilated and with the eyes gouged out, were found in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district Thursday. Police suspect that the bodies were of cattle smugglers tortured to death by local villagers.

The bodies of two men were discovered in Churabhandar village under Moynaguri police station in the district. Additional Superintendent of Police (Jalpaiguri) James Kujur said the men were likely lynched by villagers who suspected them to be cattle thieves.

The two bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Police have also begun interrogations of villagers in the matter.
