Two Bangladeshi linkmen of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were arrested in Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district while attempting to cross over back into their country, an official said Tuesday.
"Nipendra Koch and Sisir D. Sangma were arrested late Monday night from Purakhasia in South West Garo Hills bordering Bangladesh," Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman Mahendra Singh said.
During preliminary questioning, Singh said both the accused confessed that they had crossed over to India two days back through the culvert and went to Ampati, the assembly constituency of Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
"They have also confessed that they were involved in facilitating cross-border movement of the NDFB rebels," the BSF official said.
The NDFB is fighting for an independent homeland for the Bodo tribe in Assam.
Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly, unfenced and prone to frequent infiltration.
