Two security guards were on Wednesday morning found murdered at a senior secondary school in the capital and Rs.24,000 in cash reportedly stolen from the principal's office, police said.

The bodies of brothers Sunil, 40, and Anil, 25, were found around 6 a.m. inside the Delhi United Christian Senior Secondary School near Raj Niwas, the residence of the Lt. Governor, in north Delhi's Civil Lines area.

"It seems that the guards were attacked on their heads with stones and iron rods, which led to their death. Their hands and legs were tied using wires of a table fan which was being used by them," Deputy Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma told IANS.

Circumstantial evidence suggests the brothers might have been killed sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

"Evidence indicates that the guards were sleeping at the time of the attack as there was no sign of any scuffle on the spot," Verma said.

Police said Sunil's body was found lying on a cot while Anil's body was on the floor.

Police suspect it to be a case of robbery as the lock of the principal's office was broken, and Rs.24,000 in cash reportedly stolen from there.

"Our initial inquiry suggests that robbery might be the reason behind the murder. The culprits broke the lock of the school principal's office and took away Rs.24,000 in cash from an almirah," Verma said.

Police said the brothers belonged to Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh and stayed here in a nearby colony.

Police have launched a manhunt for the culprits and are scrutinising CCTV footage from cameras installed inside the school.

"Fingerprint experts and forensic teams have picked up evidence from the spot which has been cordoned off," said a police official.
